Forerunner 101 Pros and Cons
So you’re interested in the Garmin Forerunner 101? And with good reason as although it is at the cheapest end of the Forerunner range it is still packed with loads of features which don’t even feature in more expensive models in competing brands.
Although it is slightly bigger than the other models in the range the Forerunner 101 is lightweight enough to be worn without any distractions. And it has proven to be very popular amongst sports people and comes with lots of very good reviews.
In fact over at Amazon you can check out 100+ Reviews and where it has got a 4 out of 5 Star Rating. Anything above a 3 Star rating at Amazon is Very Good and a 4 Star rating is excellent.
Here’s a quick summary of the types of reviews people have been giving about the Forerunner101:
Pros & Cons
2 of the main features, which a lot of people like, are the display size and the Virtual Buddy training feature. Because of the bigger display you can glance down while on the move and still make sense of the readouts. With 4 Main displays packed with information it’s important that you can easily read the data without having to stop.
And the Virtual Buddy allows you set a pace and time for your virtual training partner and you can then try and keep up with that pace. It’s just another way to get the most out of your training runs and although you may at first think it’s a bit gimmicky, you’ll certainly make good use of it eventually as it breaks up those otherwise boring training sessions.
One of the main gripes about the Forerunner101 is that it is not suitable for extremely wet sports. So if you’re looking to take it Canoeing then it may suffer somewhat. But for normal everyday wear in rainy conditions it will work just fine.
Overall the Forerunner 101 is great value for what you pay and if you have a spare $20 then I’d personally go for the Garmin Forerunner 201 as it can connect to your PC for even more analysis. And the 201 has built in rechargeable batteries, unlike the 101 which uses 3 AAA batteries.
